Topsoil-What type of topsoil should you buy?

Topsoil is generally used for two main purposes. The first use for basic topsoil is seeding and sodding. The second use is plant mix for planting. It is important for topsoil to have organic matter & microorganisms. Topsoil could be purchased either screened or unscreened.

Screened Topsoil puts the topsoil materials through a screening process which will eliminate the stones or aggregate materials that may be in the topsoil. Screened topsoil may be more expensive to buy because off this additional process.

Unscreened Topsoil may include some materials including stone or aggregate materials. Unscreened topsoil may cost a little less because it does not have to go through the topsoil screening process. Topsoil prices vary depending on the region in where you reside, usually topsoil is priced by the quantity of topsoil ordered and the delivery charge to your destination.

Topsoil requirements may vary from state to state, for instance NJ Topsoil must be approved or certified DEP quality. If you buy topsoil NJ, be sure to verify that it is DEP approved.

Topsoil defined by wikipedia;

Topsoil is the uppermost layer of soil, usually the top 2 to 6 inches. Topsoil has the highest concentration of organic matter and microorganisms, and is where most of the Earth’s biological soil activity occurs. Plants generally concentrate their roots in, and obtain most of their nutrients from this layer of top soil. The actual depth of the topsoil layer can be measured as the depth from the surface to the first densely packed soil layer known as hardpan. As one of the layers of soil on the Earth’s surface, topsoil is sometimes referred to as the A horizon. This layer is formed from the deposition of eroded material as well as decaying organic matter. A variety of soil mixtures are sold commercially as topsoil, usually for use in improving gardens and lawns, or for ideal growing conditions in container gardens, by using potting soil, for example. A major environmental concern known as topsoil erosion occurs when the topsoil layer is blown or washed away. Without topsoil, little plant life is possible. It takes approximately 500 years for one inch of topsoil to be deposited, but there is 25 billion tons of topsoil lost each year.

What You Should Know About Student Loan Consolidation

Student loan default rates continue to be high and are a growing problem. A default on a student loan can wreck havoc with a young person credit score, when they are just starting out.

What is Student Loan Consolidation?

Student loan Consolidation can help, not only in avoiding default but in making monthly payments more manageable. According to the Higher Education Act, just about every kind of Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) or Direct Loan is eligible for consolidation. Both undergraduate and graduate school student loans qualify.  There are a few specific exceptions and these can be found listed at www.loanconsolidation.ed.gov .  These federal programs make student loan repayment easier by combining several types of Federal education loans regardless if they have different terms, different repayment schedules - even if they have been made by different lenders – into one often lower interest loan. In addition, the monthly payment amount on a consolidated student loan is usually lower and the schedule of payments is usually extended to one that is more reasonable. These features are designed to create a much more manageable debt and should make borrowers less prone to default.

Is it Right For Me?

Just about anyone with outstanding student loans can benefit from consolidation. However you need to seriously consider it if:

·        Your Monthly Payments Have Become Unmanageable. If you are in danger of default, if you have had trouble meeting your monthly payments, and have exhausted your deferment and forbearance options, student loan consolidation should be serials y considered. There are online calculators available that can help you determine what you new payments would be under the various program available.

·         You have Multiple Payments to Multiple Lenders.  If you want to avoid the hassles of sending different payments to different lenders every month with a Direct Student Consolidation Loan you wile b making only one payment to one lender every month

·        You have Variable Interest Rate Student Loans. The interest rate for a Direct Consolidation Loan is fixed for the life of the Direct Consolidation Student Loan. Interest rates on consolidated student loans are calculated by using a weighted average of the interest rate on the loans being consolidated and have a cap of 8.25%

Should I use a Student Loan Consolidation Service?

Consolidating your student loans through the US Department of Education is free and anyone can apply. However if you realize you will benefit from student loan consolidation, or are seriously in over your head and facing default, you may want to consider using the services of a professional lender that specializes in student loan consolidation. They have the ability to look at multiple loan programs available from multiple lenders and not just the programs available from the federal government.  A professional Student Loan consolidation company can quickly and easily assess your situation and match you with a consolidated loan that is right for you and your financial situation.

The Advantages of Student Loan Consolidation

If student Loan debt is a heavy monthly burden on you or your family, you are not alone. And if the monthly payment is becoming so unmanageable that you may have already missed payments or be in danger of default, then loan consolidation may be right for you.  A consolidation loan is just what it sounds like. With a loan consolidation program your high interest student loans are combined into one sometimes lower interest loan, with one lower monthly payment, that you need to make to only one lender. Consolidation Loans are much like the same idea of refinancing a mortgage, or taking a home equity loan to consolidate credit card debt or pay off other high interest loans.

Just about every kind of Federal Student Loan qualifies for student loan consolidation including; FFELP, FISL, Perkins, Health Professional Student Loans, NSL, HEAL, Guaranteed Student Loans and Direct loans. In some instances loan consolidation is even available for private education loans as well. Loan consolidation is offered for student loans for either graduate or undergraduate schools.  Interest rates on consolidated student loans are calculated by taking a weighted average of the loans being consolidated, and are then rounded up to the nearest 1/8 of a percent. The new interest rate cannot exceed 8.25%. So for example let’s say that a student has a couple of Stafford Loans that were originated on or after July of 2006. The fixed interest rates on these loans would be 6.8%. If only these loans are consolidated the new resulting interest rate would be 6.875%, a statistically insignificant increase, but the student would gain the advantages of only having to pay a single lender, and often gets extended time for pay back.   In the case of consolidating mixed loan products, like say a combination of Perkins Loans and Stafford Loans, the resulting interest rates will always wind up somewhere in between. The weighted average will give you interest rates that are lower than your highest rated loans, but that will also be higher than your lowest loan products.  So again the overall increase or decrease in your interest rates will be negligible – the true advantage of loan consolidation is not necessarily in lowering interest rates, but in actually lowering monthly payments, and extending the term of your loans, making your student loan debt more manageable, and less likely to result in default.

Keep in mind the other advantage to loan consolidation is that there are no fees of costs associated with consolidation, ever. If any service is charging any kind of upfront fees for loan consolidation, they are likely a scam and should be avoided.

Student or parent borrowers can apply for a consolidation loans, however parent loans cannot be combined with the student borrower loans, only loans to the same individual can be consolidated. But of course a parent borrower and their students can consolidate their own loans separately.  Even loans that are in default but with satisfactory repayment arrangements, may qualify for student loan consolidation.

The Benefits of Student Loan Consolidation

If you are like many other college graduates, you may have amassed an overwhelming amount of debt in student loans in order to get through school. Now that you’re finished, what can you do about all those loans?

Get Out From Under Those High-Cost Loans

Did you know that the amount of money loaned to college students nearly tripled between 2001 and 2006? That’s an increase of over ten billion dollars in five short years! If you took out private student loans with variable interest rates, you might be in the same boat as many other college graduates–rising payments with an income that doesn’t match! So where can you find relief? The solution may be student loan consolidation. Some of the benefits you could see if you consolidate your student loans include making one payment to one lender every month for all loans that you consolidate, lowering your monthly payment, and getting one rate on your consolidated student loan.

Consolidating Private Loans vs. Federal Loans

Repaying private student loans can be expensive. Rather than paying different interest rates on multiple loans, you’ll have one rate on the entire balance if you consolidate to one new student loan. Additionally, if rates have gone down since you took out your private student loans you may be able to consolidate your student loans based on today’s low rates and you could see significant savings. Private loan consolidation interest rates are based on credit worthiness. If you have federal student loans, look for a program that specifically consolidates federal student loans. These programs are usually federally subsidized and have lower rates than private consolidation loans. The interest rate for your consolidation loan is a weighted average of all of the interest rates on your federal student loans. Loans that qualify for a federal consolidation program include Stafford Loans and PLUS loans, among others.

Don’t Underestimate the Importance of Student Loan Consolidation

If your monthly bills are stacking up and you have more than one student loan, applying for a consolidation loan to make your monthly payments more manageable may make sense. Consolidate federal loans separately from private loans because federal consolidation loans generally have lower interest rates. The transition from college to career: job readiness As your college career comes to a close, many students will experience some tension and anxiety. Maybe you have been very driven throughout your time at college and you have a future career in mind.  Or maybe you just tried your best to take advantage of a broad, challenging, liberal arts education and were confident that the Bachelors degree on its own would make you a desired candidate in the job market.  The truth is, regardless which of these profiles describes you best, now is the time to reevaluate and get organized. Few people expect every college graduate to leave their institution knowing exactly what they want to do for the next 40 years of their lives.  Thankfully, there are many people within the university community who are there to help you navigate through this tough time, gain exposure, and strengthen a few skills so you can shed that lost look and enter the job market with confidence. Also, remember to lower your monthly payments by consolidating student loans . This will relieve some of the financial stress.

First, evaluate whether or not you have a predefined direction.  Are you confident that you want to practice medicine or law? If so, you should look into law school or medical school, for you cannot practice in those fields without the appropriate graduate degrees.  You need to be mindful that there are specific entrance exams that one must pass upon applying to the programs.  Remember that these programs require students to be fairly committed since they are expensive and a challenging workload.  Keep in mind you can work in both of those fields in any number of positions without law or medical degrees, such as social work, paralegal, nursing, and business administration. These programs may also require graduate programs, but they are more likely to offer financial assistance.

Tips for starting College Life

These days many of us have a stereotypical view of what “College” really is.  Thanks to the media we either picture newfound freedom that includes wild frat parties and minimal sleep or the pressures of passing classes and exams. In all honestly, you may encounter both of these extremes but alone they do not come close to encapsulating the rich, diverse experiences that college will bring to you.  In order to ensure a smooth transition from childhood to college life it is important to prepare by knowing your resources and support systems.  At most institutions incoming freshman live in residence halls where they have roommates, shared bathrooms, and dining halls. Residence halls are a great way to meet new people, to put together student organizations, and to plan fun events but it is important to remember that Residence halls are not personal apartments. There are going to be new rules to follow and tough consequences for breaking these rules. Also, prepare to be flexible: many dorms do not offer much privacy and space. Unfortunately this is the price you pay for the excellent social and networking opportunities. Though you may feel cramped at times, most students would say that with the friends they make, the clubs they create, and social gatherings that the tradeoff is worth it.

Another part of the transition is time management. No longer will you have class in a solid block from 8-4 nor will anyone tell you when to go to bed or study for your exams. It is important to keep a schedule so you can stay on top of your studies and keep active to curb loneliness and stress.  Balance is key: get out there and take advantage of all of the student orgs, artistic and musical opportunities, clubs, sports and social gatherings.  Schools have budgets just for student organizations, so look into what is offered—it is most likely free or very cheap. If your dream club is not yet in existence, get some students together and start your own. Many institutions will provide materials, the space, and foot the bills. One of the most unique and life changing experiences that college can offer to you is the opportunity to study abroad. In a study abroad program a student moves to another country for anywhere for a few weeks to a year to study and live immersed in a different culture whether or not the country speaks your native language. If you have always studied a foreign language, this is a great opportunity to become fluent.   Through this experience you can gain knowledge and perspective on a new culture as well as your own.  Many college students say that the experiences they had traveling, seeing the world, eating new foods, were the most exhilarating of their college career.

Remember that college is not restricted to studying and partying.   You create your college experience by trying new things and taking initiative so take risks, stay organized, and keep and open mind.   Also, remeber to learn about the different types of College Loans, Grants and financing available to help pay for School.

The College Application Process

The college application process can feel quite overwhelming. In a sense, it is the biggest organizational project that a high school student has ever undertaken. It is a compilation of grades, test scores, recommendations, and personal details that can lead to stress if left to the last minute. Therefore, it is crucial that a student stay organized and set a schedule so that he/she can tackle each piece of the application process one step at a time.  But it is important to acknowledge that each step is different and therefore requires different skills.  -Personal information. This section of an application is often the easiest to fill out and not a bad place to begin if a student is feeling anxious about the application process. Though it is not as intellectually stimulating as other sections, the feelings of accomplishment once marked off of the list are just as real.   - Personal essay.  This section required much time and the student should expect to write several drafts.  Start by brainstorming creative ideas that will grab the admissions counselor’s attention, then write an outline. After the first draft a student should find an adult or a trustworthy peer to edit the piece. A final edit will complete this process.  Make sure that the student doesn’t rewritten piece already written for school: it is important that the essay really answer the question addressed in the application as well as be a well written, sophisticated piece. -Test scores. Be sure to research ahead of time to see what test scores the school requires. It may be either the ACT or the SAT. Then make sure to study! Even if the test taker is an excellent student, these tests are in a particular style that is easier to score higher on when a student is familiar with this style. Also the tests last for several hours so taking practice test can help you build up the mental “endurance”. -Recommendation letters. Although this part of the application seems like the least work for the student, it needs to be one of the first steps on the checklist because teachers are busy! Teachers need time to write a good recommendation so give them the form provided by the school as well as a pre addressed, stamped envelope. Also, do not be afraid! High school students are still maturing and may feel awkward asking a teacher to do this favor for them. Remember that this is part of their job description and most teachers embrace the opportunity to help out their good students.     -Resume.  It helps to write out a resume to highlight a student’s skills, work and volunteer experience, and extra curricular activities. This is an opportunity to show off and let the school know what a motivated, well-rounded candidate the student is. Staying organized, and taking each application step by step is truly the key to a stress-free application process.
